FAQs: Texas Real Estate License Exam Prep

The Texas real estate licensing exam is a multiple-choice test that consists of two parts. The first is the national section, which covers general real estate topics, and the second part covers the topics that are relevant to the real estate industry in Texas only. The national-level exam has 85 questions to be completed in 150 minutes. The state-specific section has 40 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Thus, the license exam is spread out over 4 hours and you must answer 125 questions within that time.

Overall, the Texas licensing exam is considered difficult by most students.  The national portion of the exam is considered easier than the state portion.  The pass rates for the national portion are typically higher, but since you have to pass both parts of the exam to pass the overall exam, the pass rates for the state portion usually determine a student's pass rate for the exam.  As a study tip, know your key terms, which will help you pass the National portion, and know the Texas licensing laws to help pass the State portion.

The RealEstateU Texas State Exam Study Guide consists of two parts.  The first part is the "Cliff Notes" for the state exam.  The section filters out the facts and information you will be tested on on the State licensing exam.  The second part consists of three practice exams that mimic the actual state exam.  Each test question includes feedback as to why the correct answer is correct.

The Texas Real Estate Salesperson's Licensing Exam follows the PearsonVUE national test outline. The state portion of the test includes the following topics: 1) Commission duties and powers  2) Licensing  3) Standards of conduct  4) Agency/brokerage  5) Contracts  6) Special topics
